Before that date tonight, you might want to head over to the bookstore and read up on who you could be meeting: a Dangerous Man. Sandra Brown, M.A., will tell you all about him in How to Spot a Dangerous Man Before You Get Involved .
Although we are a married bunch here at Girlfriendbooks, we still clearly remember our single days. Luckily, we managed, without this book, to marry non “dangerous” men; although now that we reflect, we are quite certain a few of these “dangerous” men crossed our paths. (It definitely explains one heartbreak in college.)
To our single girlfriends, do yourself a favor, and read this book. This is not your average… . . . → Read More: attn: single women

Based upon Availability: A Novel by Alix Strauss and it was a surprise page-turner. Believe it or not, we don’t really LOVE to read like some people do. We are not the types who will finish reading something no matter what, even if we are not enjoying it. That was one reason we created Girlfriendbooks – to spare many of you from having half finished books scattered around your house. We love (and recommend) books that keep you turning the pages – and Alix Strauss delivers with Based upon Availability.

We want to eat everything in this book. Everything. Williams-Sonoma Comfort Food: Warm and Homey, Rich and Hearty should really come with a complimentary bib.
Most of the recipes in the book come complete with pictures, and are very easy to follow. They are also not shy at all about encouraging you to ingest a day’s worth of saturated fat in one sitting, as we noticed in the recipe for Blueberry Pancakes where they encourage you to “slather with butter”. In the spirit of Julia Child (“if you’re afraid of butter, use cream”), we did just that – and those blueberry pancakes were heavenly.
On to an appetizer of sorts, we tried… . . . → Read More: Warning: dieters beware

I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti: A Memoir of Good Food and Bad Boyfriends by Giulia Melucci and although we loved Giulia, and desperately want to be her friend and have her cook for us, we do want to take a few minutes to….shake her.
Giulia is a single PR executive working in NYC who writes and cooks her way through this memoir of her multiple failed romances. Obsessed with cooking for her boyfriends, the book not only delivers a page-turning story of a single New Yorker, but includes her easy to follow recipes as well.
What can we say, love is a difficult thing to find. However, Giulia seemed to want… . . . → Read More: we just finished reading

What to Wear for the Rest of Your Life: Ageless Secrets of Style by Kim Johnson Gross. Aging isn’t for sissies, as they say. And one of the more unfortunate things about aging is that you no longer can get away with some of the things you have worn all your life. Like jean cutoff shorts, for instance. At some point, you have to start dressing your age (of course that does not necessarily mean you need to act your age, which we of course do not do around here.) My mother always wore skirts. I have never seen her once, my entire life, in a pair of pants. … . . . → Read More: we just finished reading
