Girlfriendbooks was born in 2002, the creation of two old college friends who lived in different states. Through the years it has gone through growing (and not-growing) pains, but it is still the site that we intended – a place to come and find some great books, and maybe have a laugh or two.
The site’s original and current owner, Maria, started her career online with one of the first releases of online coupon code sites, ItsRainingBargains.com, way back in 2000. Although the site itself did not make her a millionaire, she did create a very loyal following through her newsletter subscriber list – where, twice a week, she would send out bargains and tell her happy, sad and frustrating stories as the stay at home mom of two children – one being The Most Active Boy On The Planet. Her son provided endless entertainment to her subscribers and the bargains were pretty good, too.
That active little toddler is now 9 years old, and his mommy has returned to work. Unfortunately, it was impossible for her to continue the work of updating a site and creating a newsletter full of bargains twice a week without feeding her family macaroni and cheese every night, so in 2008, ItsRainingBargains closed its virtual doors.
Girlfriendbooks, however, always took on a life of it’s own. With the many loyal followers of ItsRainingBargains also following Girlfriendbooks, the site was as popular as ever, and the demand for a newsletter to hear from their old friend would always pop up in Maria’s inbox. It is a labor of love, that this girlfriend will never part with! Along the way we have added reviews of girlfriend getaway destinations, and gift guides. This year we launched Girlfriendbuys.com – things we know you’ll love!
Now, in 2010, Girlfriendbooks is better than ever. We have a new website and will have more surprises for you as the year unfolds.
