How To Meet Cute Boys by Deanna Kizis
It’s so hard to follow your own advice, isn’t it?
You know what you are supposed to do, but actually doing it
isn’t so easy. Just
ask Benjamina Franklin, the hip dating scene authority for
L.A.
’s
Filly magazine.
On paper she seems to have all the answers, but she’s
pretty much a disaster when applying her advice to herself.
How to Meet Cute Boys is set in hip, happening,
L.A.
,
where fabulous parties and star sightings are just par for the
course, especially for up and coming journalists and other movers
and shakers. Yet
despite the cool job, hip neighborhood, and nonstop social events,
dating is still hell. Ben
may have a more glamorous lifestyle than most of us girlfriends,
but she is easy to relate to as she struggles to understand men (or
in this case – cute boys) and their seeming aversion to
commitment (a.k.a., The Fear).
When we first meet Ben, she has recently ended a dull but steady
relationship and is hoping that the perfect guy is out there for
her somewhere. When
she does meet the boy who could be the one, she is stunned to
discover that he truly is a “boy” as he flashes a fake i.d. at
a club. Dating is
never easy it seems. But
Ben’s BFF and editor, Kiki, is always there to lend an ear to her
whining and obsessing about where the relationship is or isn’t
going, and Ben’s other good friend and therapist-in-training,
Nina, tells it like it is even though Ben doesn’t want to hear
it. Also part of the
mix is Ben’s savvy, sarcastic mother who gets more dating action
than she does and her perfect Martha Stewart-wannabe little sister
who is soon to be married. Through
it all, Ben’s insecurities and hopefulness will strike a chord
with most of us as she tries to sort out this crazy little thing
called love.
The book is also peppered with fun little extras – articles,
quizzes and advice tip sidebars that you’d find in your typical
girl magazines. My
favorite was the horrorscope chart filled with love warnings from
the stars. Be the
first among your girlfriends to read this new chicklit novel to be
released September 28.
