Going Bridal: How to Get Married Without Losing Your Mind by Li Robbins
Perhaps if yours truly had known of this book when I first started planning a wedding, I wouldn't have eloped.  But there is still hope for you to have a wedding without going postal, er, I mean, crazy!  Li Robbins covers all the bases here, from dealing with the mother of the bride (that would be your mother even though she has been unrecognizable to you since you got engaged) to dealing with a frugal fiance.

W
hy aren’t you married?  We’ve all heard that question before.  And even if you’re perfectly content being single – and there are plenty of reasons to be – it’s just grating to be asked.  Well, this sassy little book gives you 26 feisty comebacks to that annoying little question, as well as a philosophy on why it’s better to hold out for a soul mate instead of settling for a cell mate.

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
This is a fun read that will keep you laughing all the way through.  It stars Bridget, a 30 something singleton who begins each day’s diary entry with her weight, number of cigarettes smoked and drinks consumed. The book inspired a new wave of chicklit, so you know it must be good.  And, of course, the story was made into a movie with Bridget (well, technically Rene Z.) nominated for an Oscar.  Don’t particularly recommend the movie, but the book gets kudos with us.

The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank
Here’s a bit of chick lit that you may have missed a few years back.  It’s the story of Jane, an everyday girlfriend, who’s trying to figure out life.  Bewildered by love and constantly self-doubting, Jane takes us through her humorous romantic and work-related trials and tribulations.  But when she almost loses the love of her life playing it cool by The Rules, she finally learns what it really takes to win her man’s heart.  This is a smart book with a bit more substance than let’s say, Bridget Jones (though we did enjoy that one too).  Thanks to Hdar for dropping a line and reminding us about this great read.

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner
Yikes!  Talk about an insensitive boyfriend.  During a temporary break-up, Cannie’s ex writes about loving a larger woman in his debut column for a women’s magazine.  Cannie, a 28 year old columnist, is completely humiliated by having her life so exposed and discovering how her boyfriend truly feels about her size.  This sets into place a chain of events that significantly impacts her life.  Don’t worry, the story is not as predictable as go on a diet, become beautiful and land the perfect guy.  There are lots of laughs and twists along the way.
