Women's Bodies,Women's Wisdom by Christiane
Northrup, M.D.
Every woman should
have this book. Originally published in 1994, it is a
collection of advice, case studies, and writings about creating
physical and emotional health. It covers a wide range of
health issues confronting women today, such a fertility,
menopause, and motherhood.
In a larger sense, it is an overview of how a woman can keep herself in the best of health - both her mind and her body. Dr Northrup's recommendations and advice set out a plan to live by.
Dr Northup practices both traditional and alternative medicine. In other words, if you have a medical complaint, she wouldn't throw a bunch of prescriptions at you, unless it absolutely required it. She would first try to see if perhaps some emotional issues were causing your problems, or see if a change in your diet or nutritional supplements could help. Then if the issue does not resolve, she would turn to conventional means to treat you.
Skeptical? I'm sure some of you would be, until you experience the difference this approach can make. A while back, a friend was complaining to me about her recurrent urinary tract infections. Her doctor for years had been prescribing preventative antibiotics. When the recent news reports about the dangers of prolonged antibiotic use came out, she was scared. But the thought of going off them was scary as well.
I consulted this book on her behalf. It referenced various emotional causes of such infections, and offered a natural cure, including doses of vitamin C. I told my friend about it, and she decided to give her advice a try. It worked! She has been antibiotic and urinary tract infection free for almost a year.
There are many similar stories in this book. And there are times when prescription medicine and/or surgery is the answer to your problem. Dr. Northrup strikes the perfect balance, which is why her book has over 1 million copies in print.
Personally, I believe that everything human beings need to live are (or were) present on our natural earth. That's not to say I don't rely on conventional medications such as allergy medication. After all, mankind has altered our environment in some not so nice ways. But for some common complaints, perhaps a change in diet, supplements & attitude can make all the difference.
So in this new year, resolve to take control of your health - your most precious asset. For starters, buy this book. You can also visit Dr Northup's website, and sign up for her newsletter. You will be on your way to a healthier, happier, you!
